According to reports, the governors discussed having a consensus presidential candidate, as recommended by President Buhari, at their first meeting.

“Many of them believed that it is a concept that can be tested,” according to a source who talked with Newsmen.

The governors also discussed who they should nominate as the APC consensus candidate during the second meeting, according to the source.

During the second meeting, it was reported that the topic of the area produced dispute, with some suggesting a northern governor as a consensus option.

The source did not name the northern governor, but Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, and Mohammed Badaru, the governor of Jigawa State, are both in the running.

Rotimi Akeredolu, a governor from the South-West, was opposed to the notion, suggesting that a governor from the South might be considered.

Governors from the South are Prof Ben Ayade of Cross River State, Dr Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, all of whom are running for president in 2023 within the governing party.

When questioned about Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, the source said “For the time being, the majority of the debate was focused on a governor replacing Buhari.
Southern governors, on the other hand, are discussing power rotation.”
