2023: See How Nigerians Reacted As CAN Rejects Muslim/Muslim Presidential Ticket

The Christian Association of Nigeria’s(CAN) rejection of a muted Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket has sparked reactions.

The Christian organisation has previously urged major political parties in the nation from fielding Christian/Christian or Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket in 2023, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

CAN’s National Secretary, Joseph Bade Daramola, issued a statement on Friday, describing plans to field candidates of the same faith as a danger to Nigeria’s fragile peace and unity.

CAN also advised that the presidential contenders’ running mates be chosen with a balance of both faith practitioners in mind.

Anything opposite to the aforementioned, the organization claims, indicates that the leaders of these political parties are unconcerned with the entity’s cohesiveness.

Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar are the presidential candidates of the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), respectively.
They are both Muslims.

With Atiku seeking for a Southern Christian to round out his ticket, news surfaced on Friday that the APC is considering pairing Tinubu with a strong Muslim northerner ahead of the 2023 election.

As a result of the occurrence, numerous internet users resorted to social media to share their opinions on the Christian group’s statement.

“In fact, Nigeria is in a critical state of security right now that the religion of its president is key.”
