The Metropolitan Police has accused former Deputy Speaker of Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and wiofe, Mrs Beatrice Ekweremadu of plotting to smuggle a child to the UK in order to harvest its organs, and reports of their detention on Thursday sparked reactions.
Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were detained in London by the Specialist Crime Team of the UK Metropolitan Police, as previously reported by Anaedoonline.ng.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement on Thursday that the two had planned to make it easier for a youngster to go to the county so that their organs could be taken.

Following an investigation by its special crime unit, the police said the two have been charged and will appear in court.
The inquiry was started, the police claimed, when investigators were made aware of probable violations under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.
The youngster has been placed in protective custody, it did add.
Following the revelation, Nigerians have used the microblogging platform Twitter to express their opinions on the situation.
While some people reacted disbelief, others argued that nothing should be taken for granted when it comes to Nigerian politicians and advocated for a thorough inquiry, pointing out that doing so would reveal much more nefarious information.

Others who voiced their opinions connected it to the murders and other crimes that are now common in the southeast, while others claimed it was a result of his verbal attack on Peter Obi.
