Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president, and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, were detained for unknown reasons.

According to reports, Ekweremadu and his wife intended to import a child from Nigeria for organ harvesting.

Remember that the pair was accused of conspiring to plan and enable the journey of another individual with the intention of exploitation, namely organ harvesting, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The parents, who came before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court on Thursday, reportedly wanted to transplant the boy’s organs into their daughter, who has renal insufficiency, according to the Daily Mail.

The pair, according to the publication, were detained on Tuesday at the Heathrow Airport as they sought to catch a flight to Turkey, where it was thought that the procedure could take place.

Ekweremadu is said to have had £20,000 on him at the time of his arrest, according to prosecutors.

The couple have been remanded in custody and the case adjourned until July 7.
