2023: List Of Candidates Across Parties With Missing Certificate

More candidates and their running partners have disclosed that they lack their academic certifications as the 2023 presidential elections get closer.

In the course of its screening procedure, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) asked the political candidates of the major political parties for a number of credentials.

However, several candidates and their running partners appear to have issues with the demand for academic certificates.

The candidates who stated they were experiencing trouble presenting their certificates are listed below.

The presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, is embroiled in a certificate scandal.

The PDP flag bearer stated in an affidavit submitted to INEC that he preferred to be called by his current name because his WAEC certificate lists the name “Siddiq Abubakar” instead of his preferred name.

He claimed to have earned his secondary school diploma in 1965 and his master’s degree in 2021.

Sani Yabagi: The presidential candidate for the Action Democratic Party (ADP) informed the voting body that he had changed his name from “Sani Yusuf” to “Yabagi Yusuf Sani.”

According to a report, Yabagi stated that the old name appears on both his WAEC certificate and his degree from the University of Colombia (New York).

Bola Ahmed Tinubu: The standard bearer for the All Progressives Congress informed INEC that his certificate went missing when he went into hiding during the military rule of the late-military president, Sani Abacha.

However recent reports have revealed that the APC national chairman indeed attended the Chicago State University as the institution has confirmed that he is an alumni.

Abdulmalik Ado Ibrahim: The presidential candidate of Young Progressives Party (YPP), Abdulmalik Ado Ibrahim also complained that he could not find his authentic university degree and diploma certificate.

Ibrahim swore a court affidavit that he misplaced both of his certificates.

Kabiru Masari: The running mate of Tinubu has also stated that he lost his certificates sometime in January 2021 while on transit.
