Muslim/Muslim Ticket: Tinubu Set To Unveil His Substantive Running Mate This Week

This week, Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, will introduce his running mate.

Recall that Tinubu had already offered Alhaji Kabiru Masari’s name as a stand-in to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to a source in the Tinubu Campaign Organization, Tinubu would disclose the identity of his substantive running mate before Friday after arriving back in Nigeria from France on Friday (TCO).

The source who talked with NAN on Sunday in Abuja also corroborated the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, who said that the ruling party would run a Muslim-Muslim ticket for president in 2023.

The TCO member who requested anonymity confirmed that the running mate is a Muslim, former Governor and Senator from the North East region of the country.

“The vice-presidential nominee may most likely be a former governor and senator from the Northeast part of Nigeria.

“The person is also by accident of birth a Muslim, confirming what Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State said on Saturday that Tinubu had settled for a Muslim-Muslim ticket,” the source said.

The source added that in picking the running mate, Tinubu was not thinking about religion, but about the competence, exposure and intellectual depth of the candidate.

“The considerations given for the choice of a running mate were dictated by the need to choose an individual capable of working with the presidential candidate to take Nigeria to greater heights,” the source said.
