Nigeria is not ready for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, according to Ignatius Kaigama, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese.
During a Sunday encounter with journalists in Daura, Katsina State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu announced his choice of Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno, as his running mate.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which strongly opposed the idea of a single-faith ticket prior to the development, urged political parties to place a greater emphasis on ability than sentiment.
Despite running on a Muslim-Muslim ticket, Tinubu has defended his decision to not select a Christian as his running mate.

Kaigama claimed that the nation is not yet prepared for a presidential ticket of the same faith in the 2023 election in an interview with Newsmen on Sunday.
Kaigama stated that it is unfair and unjust to the faith that was left out to choose between a Christian-Christian ticket or a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
According to the clergyman, it is beneficial for religious sensitivity and tolerance that such tickets have a balance.
He said, “When you decide that only one religion will produce the major actors, excluding others who will become like strangers, it would not be fair and just. For the sake of religious sensitivity in a place like Nigeria, it is good that we have a balance so that we become like one big family.”
