Eight people have been detained on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, a deceased Anambra lawmaker who represented Aguata Constituency Two.

During a holy mass held in the lawmaker’s honor at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Isuofia, Governor of Anambra State Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo gave the clue.

Governor Soludo vowed that his administration would not let up until every criminal responsible for the horrible murder of the lawmaker was brought to justice. Additionally, he showed his support for all those who had been victimized by crime in the state and told them that all offenders would undoubtedly be brought to justice.

Governor Soludo reiterated the need for justice to proceed fully in the murder case while also offering his condolences to the victim’s immediate family and members of the legislative branch. He also urged the state’s citizens to increase their support for the government’s efforts to fight crime by rooting out the bad apples among them.

“These people are not unknown gunmen. They live among our people, some of them have families and operate from various communities. We need you to help us identify them so that they can face justice”, Governor Soludo said.

“The gunmen came with their strange religion, but there is no relationship between light and darkness. Their gods drink blood, but ours doesn’t, that’s why we need to fight them together” He further said.

Additionally, the Governor argued in favor of “operation know your tenants,” starting with Isuofia, as a tool to detect criminal elements in the local communities. The state House of Assembly, he claimed, had already written to INEC regarding the vacancy in the seat left by Hon. Okoye’s departure, noting that a by-election would be held soon to complete his term. Additionally, he pledged that the late lawmaker’s family will receive all benefits owed to them.
