Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders are looking to the Southwest to find a potential successor for the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

However, the person who said that a decision has not yet been made reported that the members’ general consensus is that Ayu should leave.

He mentioned that the interested parties are debating whether to choose Nyesom Wike’s supporter and former Ondo State governor Olusegun Mimiko or the National Vice Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, to serve as national chairman.

The source said, “When the various leadership caucuses meet in the coming week, the decision would be taken on the matter. But, for now, it is the general opinion of members that Ayu should go in the interest of the party. We have a tradition; so, whether Arapaja is to act or somebody else would come in does not matter. We need to unite and move the party forward.”

If the party constitution is implemented, which requires Ayu to transfer power to Deputy National Chairman (North), Umar Iliya Damagun, in the event of his resignation, the move could be hampered.
