Political activist Deji Adeyanju claims that Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi received funding for his campaign from Nigerians living abroad.

Adeyanju’s response came in response to news that the LP had established an 11-person committee to generate money and mobilize support for the party’s presidential candidate.

Adeyanju claimed on his Twitter page on Friday that the LP and Obi are soliciting donations from Nigerians living abroad in violation of Sections 225 and 85 of the Electoral Act.

The activist claimed that Obi and his party lacked character and were identical to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) they had previously criticized.

Adeyanju, however, advised the former Governor of Anambra State to return the money collected if he has any shame or integrity.

He wrote: “No political party or candidate can receive donations or funds from outside Nigeria under our laws. See SC 225 and 85 of EA. Obi must do full disclosure and return every dollar he has received from the diaspora immediately if he has any integrity or shame.”
