According to reports, some of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s associates are becoming weary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crises and may support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid.

A source close to one of the governors claims that Wike’s friends, governors Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom, and Okozie Ikpeazu of the states of Oyo, Benue, and Abia, have determined that it is still in their best interests to help Atiku win the 2023 presidential election.

According to a source who spoke to Newsmen, Governor Ortom is especially uneasy with Wike’s insistence that the PDP National Chairman, Ayu, should resign.

Despite Ortom’s initial dissatisfaction with Ayu, he admitted that Ortom eventually gave in to pressure from significant players to back the party boss who is from his state of Benue.

Additionally, it was learned that the governor of Oyo State’s angry supporters are already putting pressure on him to endorse Wike in order to win a second term.

According to a source close to Makinde, important Oyo State players are pressuring him not to sacrifice the political success of the PDP in the state on the altar of Wike’s relationship.

“Makinde has more stake in PDP as he will still go for his second term. You cannot fight forever. Major stakeholders in Oyo are asking what is in this fight for us.

“Wike is engaging in anti-party activities. If he wants to defect to another party, he is very free to do so. He is not the only person that has lost a primary election. Why is Amaechi who also invested so much in APC not taking the same route?” the source queried.

Tervez Arkezev, Ortom’s special adviser for media and publicity, called the rumor that his principal will fire Wike false.

In response to what appears to be a conflict between Atiku and Wike, he stated that the governor of Benue State wants to make sure that the PDP follows the correct procedures.

“As we speak, Wike, Ortom, and Ikpeazu are in London for a meeting. So, how can somebody say that they want to abandon Wike,” he asked.
