The All Progressives Congress (APC) has requested that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party reassess the selection of Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno state, as its vice presidential candidate.
In an interview with reporters on Monday in Abuja, the group’s secretary general, Dauda Yakubu, urged the party to take action to end the ongoing turmoil that is affecting it.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, the APC split apart after Bola Ahmed Tinubu named Shettima as his running mate for the presidency.

Since then, Nigerians and party members have grown suspicious of the choice.
The group’s Secretary-General responded to the predicament by insisting that there would be a great deal at risk if the party decided to proceed with the same religion ticket.
Dauda Yakubu stated, “The coalition, therefore, urges the party to resolve the deadlock that has arisen as a result of the Muslim-Muslim ticket in order to avoid outright rejection in 2023.”
The coalition encouraged the APC to take action and take steps to replace Shettima with a prominent party member who is a follower of Christianity.
The organization recommended the party to press forward with replacing the outgoing governor before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is scheduled to release its final list of presidential candidates on September 20.

Yakubu claimed that it would be detrimental for the party to be perceived as dismissing and ignoring the Christian population in Nigeria, and that such a public perception would result in a significant loss of votes.
