2023: Why We Supported Atiku During 2019 Elections – NEF Reveals

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has explained why it backed Atiku Abubakar as the PDP’s presidential candidate in the general elections of 2019.

The former Vice President was the only choice at the moment, according to NEF Spokesman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who was speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Sunday.

He claimed that the NEF ran an anti-President Muhammadi Buhari campaign in 2019 because of the latter’s appalling performance during his first term in office. He claimed that the myriad problems the nation is currently experiencing justified that platform.

Baba-Ahmed added that the conference advised northerners to support the PDP presidential candidate in 2019 rather than him.

He said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, would have to convince the forum to get their support and that of the Northerners.

He said, “If Tinubu is able to convince us about his genuine intention to the North, We will, in turn, tell the people Tinubu is the best candidate, vote for him.

“The truth is that we campaigned against Buhari and told northerners not to vote for him in 2019. That’s because Buhari didn’t do well in his first term. We supported Atiku because it was the only option available then.”
