Celestine Omehia’s status as a former governor of the state has been discredited by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The measure was approved by the MPs on Thursday during a meeting.

Omehia has been ordered to return all money he was entitled to as a governor in the form of benefits totaling N600 million within seven days of the motion’s passage.

Additionally, he must refund the N96.5 million pension he got.

He will no longer be referred to as His Excellency.

Six months after being proclaimed the victor of the state’s governorship race, Omehia was removed from office by the Supreme Court in 2007.

The court mandated that Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor, take the oath of office.

However, Omehia was acknowledged as governor after Nyesom Wike took office in 2015.

He and Governor Wike had just gotten into an argument over Wike’s backing of PDP presidential nominee Atiku Abubakar.
