NPC Guarantees An Accurate, Digitalized Census

The National Population Commission has revealed plans to use technological advancements in the 2023 census.

Dr. Clifford Zirra, the chairman of the Commission on Information Communication Technology, gave assurances about the credibility of the upcoming census in a meeting with journalists on Thursday following a tour of RLG/Adulawo Technology City, a company that assembles technological devices in Ilesa, Osun State, by a team from NPC.

Zirra continued by saying that the purpose of the visit was to give NPC the opportunity to find a local business to work with and support in order to help the commission realise its goal of conducting a reliable census.

He further said, “We are pacesetters. We are now going to conduct a digitized census for the first time, in the history of Nigeria and the history of Africa. We want to do something very acceptable and of a great standard. That is why we want to associate ourselves with people who can give us value, the value that would add to our work.

“We have a lot to do in terms of mobilisation, manpower and logistics to do the census, next year. That is why we are here to look at what they have. For now, we have a team of Federal Commissioners, the Director General and the management staff, who are vast in these areas and know what we need.

“We are discussing and by the time we reach the bridge, we will cross it over. We have started the discussion and we pray we get it on time. I am sure that they have not disappointed us. We have a timeline and we have to ensure that we will meet that timeline of the deadline.”

In his remarks, the Managing Director of RLG/Adulawo Technology City, Tosin Ilesanmi, told the NPC team that the company has the capacity to meet the standards expected within the time frame.

“We have 2 straight lines and 2 automated lines, that will make production more faster and of good quality. We are currently doing 30,000 devices per month for StarTimes with a single line.

“Knowing that this is a national assignment which we have to deliver, we can assure that we will meet them where they want to be met,” Ilesanmi concluded.
