The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in opposition and Hon. Emeka Ihedioha were accused by the Imo State Government of financing fabricated stories to harm Governor Hope Uzodimma’s reputation on Friday.
The state administration also distanced itself from social media rumors that Uzodimma had criticized the decision of the Appeal Court to release and acquit Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB.
This was said in a release provided to Newsmen in Owerri, Imo State, by Hon. Declan Emelumba, the Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu Discharged And Acquitted By Court
He said that neither the governor’s top press secretary nor any other official ever spoke to the media about the Appeal Court decision.
He added that the governor could not have questioned the verdict as implied by the fake news since he is a law-abiding Nigerian citizen who respects the rule of law.
“We are aware that Ihedioha is frantically attempting to drag His Excellency into the muck he entangled himself in following his ill-advised attacks on Ndigbo in which he labeled them saboteurs. However, this childish stunt is a new low for him, according to Emelumba,” he said.
He said that despite a run of successes in governance and other national responsibilities, Ihedioha and the PDP have been striving to undermine Uzodimma’s popularity.

The commissioner claimed that even when personal affairs did not go his way, anyone who was familiar with the state governor’s character could attest to the fact that he had never disrespected the court.
He said that for the state’s opposition to impute such a comment to Uzodimma was the height of deceit and fraud.
Additionally, he made it obvious that Uzodimma, a kindhearted humanitarian, would never take pleasure in the suffering of others.
Emelumba reaffirmed his exhortation to the public information managers to use caution in the performance of their duties.

He said, “the fake news didn’t attempt to answer the fundamental questions of 5Ws and H, which are who, what, when, where, why, and How concerning any news story.”
He asked Nigerians to ignore the fake news as neither the governor nor his aides have reacted to the Appeal Court judgment on Nnamdi Kanu.
