The president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), has disassociated the Nigerian judiciary from any notion of corruption.

The NBA President urged lawyers to dispel any false perceptions so that the nation and the rest of the world can understand the genuine state of the Nigerian court in remarks he made over the weekend in Abuja at a luncheon hosted in his honor by the Nigeria Law School class of 1990.

In order for them to fulfill their vocation as professionals, attorneys, according to Maikyau, must play a significant part in creating a society where justice rules.

He explained, “Let us speak up so the country and beyond would know that we are not a people called to this profession that can be compromised. I will tell you one example, my Lord, Justice Amina Augie doesn’t have a personal car; she has never bought a car for herself, that I know.”

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the special guest of honor, was described by Maikyau as a guy with no history of corruption.

Speaking during the ceremony, CJN Ariwoola praised the election that resulted in Maikyau becoming NBA President and tasked him with working hard to create numerous Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) and judges while in office.
