Nigerian Varsity Bans Spaghetti Gowns, Bum Shorts, Leg Chains, Long Eyelashes, Others

The Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt, has with immediate effect outlawed “indecent dressing” by students on its campus.

An internal memo signed on Friday by the institution’s Registrar, Dr. Sydney Enyindah, contains the restriction.

Enyindah mentioned a number of attire items that were deemed improper on campus, including leg chains, wearing long eyelashes, short skirts with exposed bums, spaghetti-strapped gowns, and shirts that exposed the navel or breast.

Others included having tattoos, wearing bathroom slippers, both sexes of pupils wearing nose rings, male students wearing earrings, dying their hair a variety of colors, and sagging their pants.

According to the registrar, the RSU Senate decided to outlaw immodest clothing on campus at its meeting of Sept. 29.

“Students are hereby directed to take note and comply accordingly as enforcement of the directive will begin immediately,” he said.
