PDP Launches 2023 Campaign In Benue, Risks Clash With Ortom, Others

Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may fight with the party’s five disgruntled governors if he attends the opening of the party’s 2023 campaign.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the G-5 governors are Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Ortom of Oyo.

They are supported by former governors of Cross River, Plateau, Gombe, Ondo, and Ekiti states, as well as Donald Duke, Jonah Jang, Ibrahim Dakwanmbo, Segun Mimiko, and Ayo Fayose, as well as Chief Olabode George, Professor Jerry Gana, and Mohammed Adoke.

Before campaigning for Atiku, the disgruntled party members withdrew from the PDP presidential campaign, seeking the removal or resignation of the party’s national head.

According to them, Ayu had pledged to quit if a northerner was chosen as the PDP’s presidential nominee.

Despite repeated attempts by high-level persons and groups to terminate the conflict, the main opposition party has been unable to resolve the problem, with both camps engaging in a media war.

The G-5 governors are expected to utilize the Benue campaign launch to make a strong message in the standoff with Ayu and the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

However, it could not be established at the time of filing this story whether or not the national chairman, who is from Benue, had received a formal invitation or would be attending the event.

A source told the Newsmen that the campaign council being formed is distinct from the PDP state presidential council.

He explained that it is purely a show put up by the G-5 governors, and that if Ayu accepts the invitation, there may be a fight between him and the governors.

A source close to Governor Ortom told Newsmen that it was for the state chapter of the PDP to invite Ayu to the function, saying, “I am sure that the party must have invited him. He is the national chairman. If he comes, his presence will be well acknowledged.”
