PDP Crisis: Governor Ishaku Champions New Reconciliation Move

A committee has been formed within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to advocate for peace ahead of the 2023 national elections.

The party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and five disgruntled governors have been at odds.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his allies have pledged not to support Atiku’s presidential election.

According to a source who talked to Newsmen, the Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, and a famous female politician from the South-South who is a loyalist of Governor Wike in the National Working Committee (NWC) have been nominated to lead the reconciliation committee.

It was also stated that several Atiku followers and party governorship candidates have opposed Atiku’s choice to proceed without the disgruntled governor.

According to sources, governorship contenders in the party have urged the party leadership to bring Governor Wike and his allies on board ahead of the 2023 election.

A source said, “The candidates specifically explained that it will be difficult for some of them to win their elections without the support of some of the aggrieved governors.

“Many of them, especially in states that are out of the control of the PDP, recalled how some of the governors in Wike’s camp have been supporting the party in their states as well as backing their gubernatorial aspirations.

“They lamented the difficulties they currently face without the support of the governors.”
