Abducted Blind Lady Released In Ogun

Hannah Opeyemi, a visually impaired lady, was released by her abductors 11 days ago, according to the Ogun State Police Command.

SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this to our correspondent over the phone on Monday.

Last week Friday, the lady was kidnapped during an attack on a legal practitioner, Sanni Boladale, in front of his house in Soyoye, Abeokuta.

She was taken away after they failed to abduct the lawyer who was said to be their target.

Eleven days after, the kidnappers, however, were freed on Sunday evening after some amount of money was reportedly paid as ransom.

When asked to confirm the release of the victim, Oyeyemi said she was released by her abductors.

He however denied payment of ransom to the kidnappers.

Oyeyemi said, “yes, she has been released. We have said that the command would not be part of any arrangement of ransom payment.
“Police will never be part of the payment of ransom. We will get the perpetrators soon. We have got some clues about the kidnappers. They would soon be arrested and paraded.

Our correspondent gathered that over N2 million was paid to the kidnappers as ransom before the lady was released.

The lawyer when contacted said Opeyemi has been released to the family by her abductors.

Boladale said Opeyemi was released on Sunday evening.

He said the victim was neither abused nor maltreated, considering the appearance of the victim after she was released.

He said “thank God she has been released.

“With the way she appeared, she didn’t have any sign of abuse or harm. They were not cruel to her, apart from the fact that she had walked parts of Ogun State.”
