Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy Senate President, has accused Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of forsaking Southern Nigeria by accepting the position of running mate to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Omo-Agege believes a southerner should succeed Katsina-born President Muhammadu Buhari when he steps down in May after an eight-year reign.
He made the remarks on Saturday in Warri, during the launch of the APC governorship campaign in Delta.

Omo-Agege, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Delta, condemned Okowa’s aspiration to be Nigeria’s Vice-President in May 2023 as a “ill-fated expedition.”
Omo-Agege called the two-term Delta State governor a “copy of Judas Iscariot today” who “should step down immediately from Atiku Abubakar’s ticket.”
APC heavyweights such as the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and his wife, Oluremi; Senate President Ahmad Lawan; and former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, among others, attended the campaign.
In Delta’s 2023 governorship election, Omo-Agege will face PDP governorship candidate Sheriff Oborevwori and other contenders.
