Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central District, has issued a challenge to President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) to reveal the names of the governors stealing money from local councils across the nation.

After Buhari revealed that certain state governors had only sent half of the money designated for local governments in their states, Sani prayed.

The President reportedly revealed the information on Thursday during a discussion with graduates of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies’ Senior Executive Course No. 44 2022 at the Aso Villa in Abuja.

He said, “Governors and local government officials who ‘pocket’, according to the President, public monies are to blame for the stalled development at the local governments.”

The former lawmaker took to his Twitter account on Friday to urge the President to be courageous in being explicit with the names of the governors involved in the reckless use of local council funds.

He wrote, “The President should have the courage to specifically mention those governors pocketing LG allocations rather than timid generalisation.”

However, the 36 governors in the country have not made their position on the development known.

When our correspondent contacted Muhammad Bello, the Chief Press Secretary to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, he disclosed that he did not receive any formal communication on the issue.
