PDP Rally: Atiku Abubakar Reveals Who Built Lagos

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential contender for 2023, stated on Monday that the Federal Government of Nigeria developed Lagos, the nation’s economic nerve center.

The Adamawa-born politician also claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) lied when it claimed that Bola Tinubu, its presidential contender, created Lagos after the country’s return to democracy in 1999.

Atiku, speaking at the PDP presidential rally in Lagos’ Tafawa Balewa Square, urged the people of the state against re-electing the APC to power at both the federal and state levels, claiming that “a single family has dominated the state for 23 years.”

“53 years ago when I came to Lagos in 1969, there was only one Carter Bridge built by the Europeans, no Second Mainland Bridge, no Third Mainland Bridge, no Tafawa Balewa Square, that was when I came to Lagos, all of you were not born then,” the former Vice-President told a crowd of PDP supporters decked out in party paraphernalia.

“Now, I want to tell you, this is a fact, you can go and check: the Federal Government built the Second Mainland Bridge, the Federal Government rebuilt the Old Carter Bridge, the Federal Government built the Third Mainland Bridge, rebuilt Agege Motor Road, rebuilt Ikorodu Road, all the major roads connecting Island and Mainland.”

He claimed that since 1999, the Lagos governments of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have lied about the state’s development.

“The AD, ACN and APC governments have been telling you lies that they developed Lagos, they did not develop Lagos at all, na lie; they are lying to you,” he said.

Atiku asked Lagosians to vote for the PDP’s governorship candidate in Lagos, Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, to free themselves from the Tinubu family’s domination.

“Therefore, it is time for you, the people of Lagos to liberate yourselves from a family’s government to a people’s government that is going to be led by Jandor,” he said.

Atiku also promised to restructure Nigeria along fiscal federalist lines and to privatize the country’s refineries.

He attended the event alongside his running partner and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa; PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu; and Governors Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), and Godwin Obaseki (Edo), among others.
