2023: We Have No Interest In Who Becomes Next Nigeria’s President – UK

The government of the United Kingdom (UK) has stated that it is unconcerned about who would be elected President of Nigeria in the next general elections.

Catriona Liang, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, made the announcement on Wednesday following a closed-door meeting with the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Working Committee, in Abuja.

Mrs. Liang stated that the United Kingdom will engage with any candidates who emerged from the election.

The High Commissioner also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s democracy and the president’s commitment to holding free and secure elections.

She said: “The UK doesn’t have a preferred candidate. We are committed to free and fair elections, but we will work with whoever the presidential candidate emerges from the election.

“The UK and Nigeria have a very strong partnership, and we want Nigeria to succeed. And democracy is part of it”.

She went on to say that her administration appreciates Nigeria’s dedication to democracy, as well as President Buhari’s commitment to free and secure elections.
