Police in the United Kingdom stated Wednesday that they had charged a man after an egg was allegedly thrown at King Charles III during a walkabout.

A 28-year-old male was charged with a public order offense, according to Bedfordshire Police.

Officers arrested the man on Tuesday in Luton, north of London, for reportedly tossing an egg at the new queen. He was granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 9.

Charles, 74, was in Luton to meet with community leaders and volunteer organizations, to inaugurate a new Sikh temple, and to see a new public transportation system.

The incident occurred less than a month after a man shouted “this country was created on the blood of slaves” and “not my monarch” at Charles and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, in York.

The defendant, a 28-year-old university student, was later granted bail and freed.

After his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in September, Charles ascended to the throne. She was laid to rest during a state burial and ten days of national mourning.

However, there were some demonstrations against the hereditary monarchy under which Charles ascended to the throne.
