Adewale Giwa, Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Christ Ministry in Akure, has asked Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to quit visiting churches, claiming that Christian votes will not help him win the upcoming presidential election in 2023.

Giwa revealed this on Sunday at a State of the Nation address to his members in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

The cleric advised lawmakers not to engage in actions that could spark more religious conflict in Nigeria.

He counseled politicians to avoid playing to the gallery and instead use the correct marketing outlets to help them win elections.

Giwa said: “Stop playing to the gallery and do what is right in the eyes of God. Why do you think the church alone can give you [Obi] the votes you expect? No sir.

Don’t try to exacerbate ethnic and religious conflicts; we still haven’t resolved the current one.
Muslim and Christian brothers and sisters had previously coexisted peacefully, until politics intervened to divide them.

“You come from a minority ethnic group, you need to love all and carry everyone along. You have the potential to become a president of Nigeria someday or in years to come, but not now.

“Start working towards it and build your resume; You need a lot of work to do, too, by building your party from the units to the wards, local governments, and states before the federal government. If it takes you ten years to do so, please, do.”

This comes just a few days after Obi attended the annual Shiloh Living Faith Church program.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Obi was present at the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State, on Thursday.

The congregation exploded in applause when Living Faith Vice President, Pastor David Abioye, announced Obi’s arrival.
