Christians are urged to follow Jesus’ teachings during the festival, according to a statement from Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola. “We must internalize the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness,” he said.

He therefore urged Christians to use the holiday season to pray for the complete elimination of the insecurity afflicting Nigeria, highlighting the importance of peace and security for both economic growth and prosperity.

In order to prevent “criminal elements” from “creating disorder in the country,” the minister pleaded for Nigerians not to listen to them.

“Moderately celebrate the festival, avoid the spread of fake news and be responsible,” Aregbesola said.
