The Durumi camp for internally displaced people was destroyed on Wednesday by the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
A handful of shanties that the administration said posed security risks were also razed.
The IDP camp is located along a dual carriage road corridor with a rail mode, according to Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority.
He regretted that hoodlums had taken control of the neighbourhood, noting that the slums were intended to serve as dual transit.
“You can probably guess what kind of crime is taking on here. They do not engage in any significant employment or important activities.

They are annoyances, not on
ly to the neighborhood but to the entire city,” Ahmad said.
He also noted that those arrested with hard drugs and other substances during the raid would be handed over to the police.
