Awkuzu SARS: Boy Arrested For Fighting Dies In Police Custody

Uchenna Okafor, a boy, is said to have passed away after being detained at Akwuzu Police Station in Anambra State following his detention.

An advocate for social justice posted the tale on his Twitter account. According to the Twitter user, three boys were detained for fighting last week and their parents were informed of the event.

The Twitter user claimed that Uchenna’s parents were required to produce N150,000 in order to secure their son’s release. Sadly, they learned that their son had passed away when they arrived at the station on Thursday.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, while reacting to the Tweet, said, “I have asked the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command to look into the matter and revert please.”

In a statement released on Monday in response to the allegation, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokeswoman for the Anambra State Police, stated, “While we are investigating into the allegation, the information before me indicates a case of armed robbery and not two people fighting as claimed.

“The Twitter handler is expected to be in the command this morning with more facts. Also, the IPO handling the case is expected with his brief this morning. Thanks.”
