Makinde Wants INEC To Ensure That Nigerians’ Votes Count

Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to guarantee that Nigerians’ votes are counted in the upcoming elections.

When he received the letter informing him of his selection as Silverbird Communication’s Man of the Year, the governor made the call.

He went on to say that the election umpire must ensure that votes are counted and that the results published reflect the actual will of Nigerians.

“This is an election season for us and we want to take this opportunity to also tell the electoral umpire, INEC, to enable people’s ballots to count. And when individuals vote, the votes should be counted and added to the final result,” he stated.

While commending the Silverbird management for the honour and the company’s impact on journalism in Nigeria, the governor said, “Silverbird has made an impact in the communication, journalism and electronic space. So, we know that you are not cheap and an award from Silverbird is a huge one. I did not have any difficulty in verbally accepting the award, because it is not a junk type of award.

“So, I want to thank the management of Silverbird and even the people of Nigeria, those people who participated in the voting.”
