Interior Ministry: 159 Nigerians Gave Up Their Citizenship In 2022

The ministry of interior has reported that at least 159 Nigerians gave up their citizenship in 2022 alone.

This was disclosed on Thursday during the 64th State House Ministerial Briefing, which was held at the Aso Rock Villa and was hosted by the Presidential Communications Team. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, made the announcement.

However, 159 Nigerians gave up their citizenship in 2022.

Rauf Aregbesola, the interior minister, claimed that a significant number of Nigerians are leaving the nation in quest of better opportunities, which is driving up demand for passports.

According to Aregbesola, the Immigration Service issued 1,899,683 passport booklets in 2022, the most in more than seven years.
