A cult conflict between competing groups murdered nine people in Ikata, Upata kingdom in Rivers State’s Ahoada East Local Government Area.
It was discovered that the community’s two factions, who traded gunfire over a quarrel, generated panic in the neighbourhood.

According to a neighbourhood source who requested anonymity, the incident generated fear in the region, with some inhabitants fleeing to safety.

“The majority of individuals fled to avoid being hit by stray gunshots, while others remained home. “Business owners closed their doors quickly to prevent being hit by stray bullets,” he said.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the state police command’s spokesman, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that an inquiry was underway.

Iringe-Koko said the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of the tactical unit to the area

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. It was a rival cult clash on Valentine’s day.
“Investigation is ongoing and the Commissioner of Police has deployed the tactical unit to the area

“For now, the Divisional Police Officer and the Joint Task Force have visited the area for an on-the-spot assessment of crime scene and the security personnel.

“We (Police) will ensure the arrest of the fleeing members of the gang… Our men are on the ground and calm has returned there,” she said.
