The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reiterated its commitment to holding free, fair, and credible elections for the presidency, National Assembly, and state houses of assembly.

Prof Kunle Ajayi, the electoral body’s National Commissioner for Osun, Ondo, and Ogun states, disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting on Thursday in Osogbo.

Ajayi disclosed that all documents for the poll are ready, with the exception of sensitive materials, which are in the custody of the Central Bank of Nigeria and will be made available hours before the election.

The INEC commissioner urged all stakeholders to educate the public on the importance of following electoral protocols during the election process in order to ensure a successful election.

Dr Mutiu Agboke, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, stated in his address that the election has been planned for 3,763 polling units, 332 wards, and 30 local government areas in the state.

Agboke further stated that 1,954,800 registered voters have been counted.

He went on to say that 16,174 ad hoc workers, including presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, collation and returning officers, had been trained to ensure a smooth election process.

He also stated that those with impairments, pregnant women, and nursing moms will be attended to as soon as possible.

U-turn: INEC To Store Sensitive Election Materials With CBN

He cautioned the electorate not to engage in any electoral malpractice because anyone found guilty will face jail time.

Patrick Kehinde Longe, Commissioner of Police in Osun State, cautioned stakeholders to read and understand electoral rules since ignorance would not be accepted as an excuse for any crime committed.

Abdulwahab Olayinka, the state director of the National Youth Service Corps, has urged to all stakeholders to let trained corps members to execute their jobs without fear or intimidation.
