You Support Vote-buying By Fighting Buhari, Emefiele – Nwodo Slams APC Govs

Okwesilieze Nwodo, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has slammed the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their stance on the naira redesign strategy.

Nwodo told reporters in Abuja on Friday that the APC governors are fighting President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, over the policy for selfish reasons.

The former governor of Enugu State also stated that governors are not concerned with reducing vote-buying and instability in the country, but rather with having surplus cash in circulation.

Nwodo also stated that it would be difficult to comprehend why the governors would be uncomfortable with a policy developed by their own party.

He said: “If the APC Governors do not understand that the current monetary policy would help to stop banditry and kidnapping as well as rejuvenate our economy.

“It means they want excess cash to be in circulation so that they can continue with their trademark of vote-buying. It also means that they are happy with kidnapping which is why they are fighting a policy geared toward checking kidnappers.

“All of us want a free and fair election and that policy should remain intact.”

Remember how Zamfara, Kogi, Kaduna, and five other states sued the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the naira redesign policy?

Igbo Presidency: South-East Are Left Heartbroken By APC, PDP – Nwodo

The states sought the Supreme Court to order President Muhammadu Buhari, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and commercial banks to withdraw the February 10 deadline for the use of the old N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes as legal cash in Nigeria.

The Supreme Court ordered the federal government to freeze the execution of the currency redesign program until the outcome of the substantive litigation in a judgement issued last week Wednesday.

The Supreme Court also barred the Federal Government, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and commercial banks from enforcing the deadline for the old 200, 500, and 1000 naira notes to cease being lawful cash.

The apex court further barred the three defendants from meeting the deadline till the problem was resolved and a notice was issued.

The federal government, on the other hand, filed a preliminary objection to the action, claiming that the Supreme Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case.

During the reopening of the case on Wednesday, the Supreme Court deferred the hearing to February 22.
