APC Wins Majority of Seat, To Produce Senate President In 10th Senate

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, will produce the senate president for the 10th National Assembly by convention and rule, having secured a majority of seats in the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared 89 senate seats finished in the senatorial elections held on Saturday, with the APC securing 49 seats.

The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, has won 28 seats, while the Labour Party has won six.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) both hold two seats.

Similarly, the Young Progressive Party, YPP and All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, have produced one senator apiece.

Each of the 36 states sends three senators, while the Federal Capital Territory sends one.

Ireti Kingibe of the FCT was declared elected after defeating PDP candidate Phillip Aduda of the APC.
