Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate for 2023, has revealed the cause for Monday’s protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Atiku, who talked with reporters outside the INEC office in Abuja, accused the electoral umpire of violating all terms of the 2022 Electoral Law during Nigeria’s presidential election on February 25.

He went on to say that previous to the final declaration of results, the PDP had raised an alarm, drawing INEC’s notice to the irregularities that had been discovered.

But, the former Vice President claimed that INEC ignored its concerns and proceeded to declare the results, which handed Asiwaju Bola Tinubu victory.

Atiku said, “All the provisions of the current Electoral law have been completely contravened. We were protesting and then INEC was not listening and went on to announce the result.

“That is why we are protesting.”

He added that the protest does not stop the PDP from heading to court in the bid to reclaim its mandate.

“We have the right to protest under the constitution, and it doesn’t stop us from going to the court,” he said.
