JUST IN: Tinubu Seeks Court Injunction To Obtain Electoral Documents

Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, requested the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday to order the Independent National Electoral Commission to provide him access to sensitive materials used in the presidential election.

Tinubu, through his lawyer, Mr Akintola Makinde, stated that he would need to review, scan, and photocopy some of the electoral materials in order to prepare his defence against petitions seeking to annul his election.

While Tinubu’s first ex-parte application, filed on March 6, named the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as respondents, the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, were named as respondents, along with INEC.

According to Makinde, “The materials will be relevant in helping us to prepare our defence and also make comparison with the information contained in INEC’s back-end server.”

The appellate court sitting as the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal will on Wednesday rule on Tinubu’s application
