CBN: We Didn’t Instruct Banks To Distribute Old Notes

According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), it never sent a new instruction to commercial banks directing them to abide with last Friday’s Supreme Court ruling allowing the continued use of the old and new naira notes until December 31.

Isa Abdulmumin, a CBN spokesperson, told Daily Trust that the apex had not released a formal statement.

A senior management source also said;
“Both the old and new notes are legal tender, and banks are currently issuing them to customers. Nigerians should not reject any note, whether old or new.”
