Governor Charles Soludo has disclosed that, contrary to popular belief, he maintained a level playing field for the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, during the Anambra State presidential election on February 25.

Governor Soludo, who denied working against Peter Obi’s victory, stated that he did not intervene in the elections as some other governors in their respective states did.

According to him, his administration’s efforts to combat insecurity in Anambra resulted in a peaceful atmosphere during the presidential election.

The Anambra Governor reminded those who believe he is anti-Obi to recall that he openly predicted Obi would win Anambra, and he also abstained from doing anything to undermine the Anambra people’s aspirations during the election.

Soludo submitted the application on Thursday, according to Christian Aburime, his Chief Press Secretary.

According to him, since taking office last year, his administration has liberated eight local government councils held by criminals, which is part of what ensured a peaceful and secure environment witnessed during and after the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections in Anambra, allowing people to openly come out and vote.

“Before now, not many people would have come out to vote, because of the security situation.

“Anambra people know that Governor Soludo is working very hard, and for them to sustain such work, they need to support the party of the governor.

“For those thinking that Soludo did not support Obi, they have to know that the governor did not interfere in the election, like some governors did, or even try to coerce anyone,” he said.

Soludo used the opportunity to call on the people of Anambra to support his government by voting for candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the March 18 House of Assembly election.
