BVAS Inspection: LP Gives INEC Three-Day Ultimatum To Obey Court Order

The Labour Party (LP) has set the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a three-day deadline to allow its attorneys and agents to inspect the Bimodal Voter Authentication System (BVAS) devices alongside other electoral documents, or face the Obidient movement.

Tanko Yunusa, chief spokesman for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Committee (LPPCC), told the Saturday Tribune this over the phone.

Yunusa stated that the electoral body has selected which court orders to respect and which to disregard.

He added that despite the court ruling permitting them to check the BVAS, INEC had begun configuring them.

He lamented that this would tamper with the result of the Presidential Election for which the LP requested for inspection of the machines.

His words: “They have begun configuring the BVAS machines.

“They denied us, and have not allowed us to have access to the BVAS Machines at all, these are the issues.

“And we are saying that if they do not allow us we would be forced to call all our people to come out and mobilise ourselves to go to the INEC office and demand the rights of the people based on the last election.

“They are disregarding the court order and they have gone ahead to do what they want to do based on the order of the court that gives them the room to say that they can reconfigure.

“They refused to obey the court order that says they should give us the right to inspect the BVAS before they re-configure the machine.

“They took the matter to the court. The Court said they should grant access to the Labour Party to inspect the election materials and also gives them the right to reconfigure the BVAS.”
