Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has rejected the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi’s demand for Anambra residents to vote en masse for LP candidates in the upcoming state legislature elections.

Obi’s demand for the people of the state to vote for the Labour Party, according to Soludo, may be laying landmines for him and setting him up for impeachment.

The incumbent Anambra Governor complained that Obi knows what it’s like to be governor without his party’s control of the legislature and that he shouldn’t want him to have a similar experience.

According to newsmen, Soludo spoke against the backdrop of Obi’s request on Friday night when he met with Labour Party National and State Assembly candidates in Anambra and asked the assembly candidates to collaborate with Soludo if elected.

Obi stated that Soludo need not be concerned about being impeached by the Labour Party-dominated legislature since they would be working together to carry the state forward.

Governor Soludo, in a response via his press secretary, Mr Chris Aburime, said Obi’s actions could be deceiving.

He said: “That call was meant to deceive Anambra people. Obi can not be talking about development in Anambra and also be talking about asking Anambra people to elect lawmakers from the opposition party to work with Soludo.

“He worked with a legislature that was dominated by lawmakers from the PDP, when he first came in as governor, and he knows that it was not easy for him.

“He even suffered impeachment because of that, and we hope it is not the same thing he wants to set Soludo up for.

“Anambra people should go all out next Saturday and vote for APGA, if they want the developmental strides of Mr Governor to continue.

“You can not be talking of development and at the same time talking of electing opposition politicians into the House of Assembly, it is not done. It is deceit.

“Anambra people supported Obi during the presidential election, and besides, Soludo refused to interfere as the people trooped out to vote for Labour Party, and that was even before Soludo made the environment conducive for people to come out and vote.

“We have voted Labour Party in the presidential election, but for the House of Assembly election, we are voting for APGA, and we want Anambra people to know so.”

According to news reports, there will be no governorship election in Anambra on March 18, but Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will fight for control of the state assembly in the midst of the Obi-influenced tsunami in Anambra, which may tilt votes in favor of Laboir Party legislative candidates.

It would be remembered, Obi received 92 percent of the vote in Anambra’s presidential election two weeks ago.
