NNEWI: Why YPP Dragged PDP HOA Candidate, Sir Eloka Ike (IFEDICHE) To Court

The 2023 Anambra State House of Assembly elections have piqued the interest of many political enthusiasts in Nigeria, and the lawsuit filed by the Anambra Young Progressive Party (YPP) against Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh (IFEDICHE), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Nnewi North Constituency, has heightened the political debate.

The Anambra YPP, through its legal representation, filed a complaint at the Federal High Court in Awka against Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh (IFEDICHE), disputing his election as the PDP candidate for the Anambra State House of Assembly. The matter was eventually appealed to the Court of Appeal after the YPP lost in the high court on the basis that Sir Eloka Ikeh had won the PDP primaries as a sole candidate.

According to YPP insiders, the party was concerned that their candidate, Sir Augustine Ike (Synod), would be unable to equal Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh IFEDICHE’s perfect character, political pedigree, and sagaciousness.
The YPP considered that Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh (IFEDICHE) had a strong, outstanding reputation, and an overwhelming level of constituent support.

It was further gathered that the YPP was threatened by Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh IFEDICHE’s nomination because he was viewed as a strong candidate with a track record of successful representation and delivery of democratic dividends as a grassroot mobilizer and community leader in Akaboezem Uruagu.

As a result, the party decided to dispute his candidacy in court.

Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh IFEDICHE, on the other hand, had expressed confidence in the legal system and his ability to prove his case in court. He stated that he won the PDP primaries fair and square and that the YPP’s decision to challenge his candidacy is a sign of desperation and lack of confidence in their own candidate.

However, it is important to note that the decision of the Anambra YPP to challenge Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh IFEDICHE’s candidacy in court is a clear indication of the level of political competition and intrigue that is inherent in Nigerian politics.
