Guber Election: 22 BVAS Machines Declared Missing In Rivers

No less than 22 Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machines are reportedly missing in Rivers State, ahead of today’s gubernatorial and state assembly elections.

Around 6,865 of the state’s voting machines have been successfully changed for today’s polls.
Three of the accrediting machines were claimed to be irreparably broken.

But, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Johnson Alalibo, informed reporters and election monitors that the development would not influence the process.

According to Alalibo, the commission has adequate backup mechanisms.

2023 Election: INEC To Deploy 176,846 BVAS Machines

He claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission will ensure that the stolen devices are not used by criminals. He stated that election results would be made available in real time following the voting process, ensuring a free and fair process.

Meanwhile, YIAGA Africa’s state representative, Obinna Ebogidi, has asked INEC to honor its pledge to upload polling unit results.

He said: “The REC told us that 22 of the BVAS machines are missing while 6,865 BVAS machines have been reconfigured ahead of Saturday’s poll.

“Our concern is that results should be uploaded from the polling units early to avoid a repeat of what transferred in the last election.”
