The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, APC, Abia North, has announced his candidature for Senate President ahead of the swearing-in of the 10th National Assembly, saying it is his turn to serve as the nation’s number-three citizen.
In response to inquiries from journalists on Tuesday, Kalu encouraged his party to designate him or the Village, Igbere, Abia North Senatorial District as the Senate President candidate.

He claimed that he is the highest ranked Senator from the South East and that, as Chief Whip of the ninth Senate, he is deserving of the position.
