The Lagos chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has underlined its willingness to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victory in the March 18 governorship election in Lagos State.

According to news sources, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu the election winner.

The incumbent governor defeated LP’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the first runner-up.

At a press conference on Tuesday following Gbadebo’s defeat, LP Chairman in Lagos, Dayo Ekong, claimed that Sanwo-victory Olu’s was only temporary.

Ekong, a preacher, stated that the elections failed democratic tests, with attacks on loyalists and opposing party operatives.

She claimed that violence and threats disrupt elections around the state.

“Ballot boxes were snatched and burnt; all manner of evil things happened. There was no credibility.

It was not free, we will seek redress. Whatever it takes for us to get justice, we will do,” Ekong said.

She stated that the party would file a petition with INEC, the police, and the military in response to barbaric attacks on LP members.

The LP leader stated that if the election is not challenged, it will create a negative precedent.

“People died…people were disenfranchised from exercising their civic responsibility. In Alimosho, Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, no results from over 1,000 units.

“This election is a sham. Election marred by violence! We reported this case in the past election and nothing was done.

“I want to tell you, Mr. Gbaje, the REC, that you have failed the youths. You have failed the masses, and you have not done the right thing,” she added.
