Ogun Gov Poll: Go To Court, IPAC Tells PDP, Adebutu

The Peoples Democratic Party and Oladipupo Adebutu, its candidate for governor in the state, have been advised by the Inter-Party Advisory Committee in Ogun State to file a lawsuit for damages following their loss in the election last Saturday.

Samson Okusanya, the state chairman of IPAC, warned Adebutu against setting the state on fire with “unnecessary protest” and statements that could incite people against security agencies while speaking to reporters at a press conference held on Friday in Abeokuta.

The Independent National Electoral Commission announced on Sunday that All Progressives Congress governor Dapo Abiodun had won the election with a total of 276,298 votes, followed by Adebutu with 262,383 votes and Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress with 94,754 votes.

Adebutu led some PDP members in a protest to the INEC office in Abeokuta to file a petition against the commission while rejecting the results.

The head of IPAC, however, urged Adebutu and the PDP to go to court rather than leveling baseless accusations against the electoral commission.

Okusanya, who was flanked by the state chairmen, governorship and deputy governorship candidates of 10  other political parties passed a vote of confidence on the outcome of the election.
He said, “In elections like this, one candidate will emerge as the winner and anyone that lost out should follow due process which is recognised by law to express their grievances if there is any at all, instead of creating unrest in the state.
“We advise them (Adebutu and PDP), as inter-party advisory council to shun violence. They should also remember that nobody in above the law.
“We want peace and progress of the state. The losers should follow due process and tow the line of honour to express their grievances and concerns.
“All the registered political parties that are here with their governorship candidates hereby accept the outcome of the governorship and House of Assembly election as announced by INEC.”
Some of the parties at the press briefing include; People’s Redemption Party, National Rescue Movement, Action Democratic Party, All Peoples Party and the Labour Party .
