Otti’s election in Abia State is the first time that a party other than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has led the state since 1999.

In the recently ended federal legislative elections, the LP gained eight senate seats and thirty-four House of Representatives seats, making it the third most popular party in the 10th National Assembly.

Meanwhile, supplementary elections will be held in 46 constituencies, with the possibility of the LP gaining more seats.
