Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate, and the party’s Chairman, Chief Emeka Beke, were reportedly beaten up by suspected political thugs in Port Harcourt.

On Monday, supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) battled in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Newsmen learnt that the incident saw one person sustain a gunshot injury after being hit by a stray bullet.

Members of the ruling party, PDP had earlier protested in front of the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) along Aba Road in Port Harcourt.

Remember that on Friday, INEC told Cole and his team to come to the office to pick up the Certified True Copies of documents used in the conduct and declaration of the recently concluded governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state so that the APC could file a complaint with the tribunal.

Nonetheless, hundreds of PDP supporters rushed the INEC office on Monday, demanding that the electoral umpire disclose the CTC of the election documents to them.

The PDP demonstrators blocked all entrances to the INEC office, claiming that they had won the poll and should be handed copies of the records.

However, as PDP supporters were still demonstrating, the APC’s Guber candidate, Cole, the party’s Chairman, Beke and a few other candidates of the party arrived.

The APC chieftains, who had arrived in the area on an alleged invitation of the INEC were stopped from accessing the commission’s office by the protesters.

Some of the youths, however, took the moment to attack the APC chiefs, chasing them away from the INEC facility.
