The Nigeria Police Force has taken over the national secretariat of the Labour Party in Abuja.
The party’s dilemma deepened on Thursday, when seven members of the National Working Committee, NWC, appointed the National Vice-Chairman (South), Lamidi Bashir Apapa, as interim chairman.
Apapa took over for suspended chairman Julius Abure.
Court Stops Suspension Of Labour Party Chairman, Other National Officers
Apapa stated after an emergency meeting that the NWC members acted on an Abuja High Court ruling that prevented Abure from portraying himself as the LP’s National Chairman.
The court also restrained the National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim; the National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara; and the National Organising Secretary, Clement Ojukwu, in addition to Abure.
According to Apapa, the NWC also examined the suspension of party members and exco members who had already been suspended by the party leadership.
